Lincoln High School

At left are links to web pages with all of the entries from Communications Technology I and II / III students.

Deadline for submission of entries is Feb. 29. Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on Tues., March 25. Winning photos will be exhibited on the second floor of the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library's downtown branch in April.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Content: The photographer has taken subject matter and shown it in a way that is unusual and interesting.
  • Composition: The photo was composed effectively with little, or no, wasted space.
  • Elimination of distractions: The photo has little, or nothing, that distracts from the subject or main center of interest.
  • Technical aspects: The photo's center of interest is in focus. There is no camera shake and the photo is, otherwise, technically sound.
  • Lighting: The lighting enhances the photo (direction, quality and color).
  • Visually interesting: The photo is interesting. The photographer has produced a visually compelling image.

Charles Badland
Senior Art Publication / Production Specialist
Program in Neuroscience
Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL)

Charles is an Adjunct Professor in the Art Dept. at Florida State University, where he is also employed as the Senior Art Production Specialist in the Program in Neuroscience. Charles received his B.A. in Photography from California State University at Fullerton and his M.F.A. in Studio Art from Florida State University. A recipient of the New Forms Florida Artist Grant, Charles' most recent artwork is generated digitally using cameraless techniques. He maintains a studio in Tallahassee.

Julie Childers
Communications Technology Teacher
Lawton Chiles High School (Tallahassee, FL)

Julie teaches Communications Technology at Chiles High School. She built the Communications Technology program at Godby High before moving to Chiles. Before she began teaching, Julie worked as a graphic designer in Mississippi, Boston and Florida. Her last job was with the Florida Lottery.

Adrian Dennis
Chief Sports Photographer for the UK and Ireland
Agence France-Presse (London, England)

Adrian Dennis is a staff photographer who works for Agence France-Presse (AFP) covering news and sports out of the agency's London bureau. In 2001, he was the runner-up for the United Kingdom (UK) Nikon Photographer of the Year award. He has also won several UK Picture Editors Awards for his work that is published around the world.

Over the last six years Adrian has covered numerous major events including the Olympics (both Winter and Summer), the Commonwealth Games, European soccer championships, World Cup, Cricket World Cup, Wimbledon Tennis championships, British Open golf tournaments, Ryder Cup and World Athletic Championships.

He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in journalism and completed several internships at U.S. newspapers before returning to London, where he was born and grew up.

Andrew Innerarity
Senior Staff Photographer
South Florida Sun-Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

Andrew Innerarity has been a Senior Staff Photographer at theSun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida since 2005. He began his career at the Miami Herald in 1985 before joining Associated Press in Atlanta in 1994, and then The St. Petersburg Times in 1996. He also worked six years at the Houston Chronicle where his photography was featured in the 2003 Dart Award winner, "Legacy of Love and Pain."

The Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma recognizes exemplary journalism on the impact of violence, crime, disaster and other traumatic events on individuals, families or communities.

Andrew received a Bachelor of Arts in European History from the University of Southern California in 1985.

Chris Kulakowski
Student / Lincoln Alumnus
Tallahassee Community College (Tallahassee, FL)

Chris is a graduate of Lincoln High's class of 2007, where he took three years of Communication Technology. He placed in all three of the contests, earning first place in 2005, two honorable mentions in 2006, and first and second place in 2007. He is currently a student at Tallahassee Community College pursuing a major in engineering and a minor in business.

Gjergj Ndoja
Professional Photographer
Volaj Photography (Tallahassee, FL)

Gjergj was born in Shkoder, Albania. His passion has always been art and painting. Ndoja moved to Florence, Italy in 1998, where his passion for painting converted into a passion for photography. After taking some National Geographic educational courses, his hobby and passion soon turned into a promising career. Five years later, Ndoja left Florence and moved to Tallahassee, Florida. Since 2004, Ndoja has been photographing weddings and various events in Tallahassee and South Georgia under his company Volaj Photography.

Angela Peterson
Metro Picture Editor
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (Milwaukee, WI)

Angela Peterson joined the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 2003. As metro picture editor, her duties include the planning and development of the paper's metro zones and special project stories.

Prior to joining the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Angela she spent 20 years at the Orlando Sentinel -- 18 years as a staff photographer and two years as picture editor for the features and business section.

Some of the stories she worked on while at the Orlando Sentinel include "The Miracle of Phillip Chandler," which was about an Orlando youth who was kidnapped and left for dead. This photo story received a Picture of the Year (POY) Award of Excellence. The POY contest is one of the oldest, largest and most highly respected photojournalism contests in the world. While at the Orlando Sentinel, Angela also worked on "A Whole New World," a look at diversity in the Central Florida communities.

The special projects she has edited while at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel include "Special Report: Abandoning our Mentally Ill" and "Inside Choice Schools, 15 years of Vouchers."

Angela attended Syracuse University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Communication.
